We can’t hide from the hurt and expect to heal

We all have a go-to method of hiding pain.

Maybe it’s food.
Maybe it’s alcohol.
Maybe it’s really good acting.

But we do it.

And it’s not to hide from the world around us.

It’s to hide the hurt from ourselves.

A few years ago, I endured a season of the most intense heartbreak.

And I disappeared into my favorite hiding place.

All while giving up my healthiest coping mechanism:

Writing

And I spiraled.

The thing is, only you can keep yourself from escaping – only you can choose a different way

Because when we walk over the hottest coals of life, the flames will only consume us if we stop and reach for an easy out

I don’t know where you are in your journey, but an older version of myself had to learn this truth the hard way:

Something else or someone else will not heal your pain.

But you can become whole again by doing the things you love – the very things God created you to do.

Sing.
Paint.
Serve.
Create.

Pour your passion until you remember that, all along:

The fire was never meant to harm you.

But to move you into a more real, more loving soul.

The kind you don’t just recognize but embrace every time you look in the mirror.

I enjoy reading your posts. As they are very insightful.
Learning how to cope with challenges is something that we all need to learn to do. Learning to do it must come from ourselves. I agree, facing your pain is the way to heal. The more we face the pain the more we learn about ourselves, and how to cope and heal. It’s not easy to go into it, but it eases.
